Printer setup
Printer setup and repair in North & West Vancouver
Printers are the device everyone blames. A new one is installed, works twice, then disappears from the computer or prints the wrong thing. Wireless printing, scanning and phone printing are set up once, properly, so the printer is not a daily argument.

Making the printer boring again — it should be the least interesting thing in the house that happens to work.
What usually goes wrong
Is this your problem?
- The printer will not join the Wi-Fi, or drops off after a router change
- Windows says the printer is offline when it is on and nearby
- A new printer installs as a generic device and prints badly or not at all
- Scanning to the computer stopped working, or was never set up
- Printing from a phone or tablet is hit and miss
- The wrong printer keeps becoming the default, or two copies of the same printer appear
- Colours and margins come out wrong, or a page prints half blank
- The printer works from one computer and not the other
What the work covers
What the work covers
- The printer joined to your network the way it should be, with a stable address so it stops wandering
- The correct driver installed, and the wrong or duplicate entries cleaned out of Windows
- Scan-to-computer, scan-to-email or the maker's app set up so scanning actually lands somewhere
- Phone and tablet printing checked on the devices you own, not in theory
- Paper, duplex and colour defaults set to how you print, so the settings are not fought every time
- Old or ghost printers removed, so the list shows one printer that works
Printers fail in predictable ways
Almost every printer problem is one of three things: the wrong driver, a device the network has lost, or software that quietly replaced what you chose. Naming which one it is takes minutes, and it is the reason the fix holds instead of needing to be repeated next month.
Every device that needs to print
The laptop is rarely the whole job — the phone, the household tablet and the second computer all need to reach the same printer. Each is checked, so the setup is finished rather than nearly finished.
You are told when a printer is not worth saving
Some printers are built to be difficult: expensive ink, abandoned drivers, no security updates. If the machine is the problem rather than the setup, you will hear that, along with what would print better for less.
- My printer says offline — is it broken?
- Rarely. Offline almost always means Windows and the printer have lost sight of each other, usually after a router change or a Windows update. That is a settings job, not a new printer.
- Can you set up scanning to my computer?
- Yes. Scan-to-folder, scan-to-email or the maker's app can all be put in place, and the folder or inbox is checked with you so it lands where you will look for it.
- Do you fix the printer itself?
- Jams, feed problems and cleaning are handled where they are practical. When a printer needs a part or a bench repair, you will be told plainly which way it goes and what it means for the cost.
